An Artist Talk: Photographer Chris Buck
Presented by ASMP DC & Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Known for his distinctive portraits as well as a surprising and funny approach to photography, Chris Buck will bring all of that, and more.
His talk will cover his thirty-years in photography starting with his origins in Canada, and then his career in magazines and advertising in New York. His famous subjects include four presidents (including our current executive) & the Hollywood A-List, while he pursues odd and delightful side projects, like “Chris Buck’s Chris Bucks,” portraits of people who share his full name.

Bio and info:
Chris Buck was born in Toronto in July of 1964. His father worked for Kodak, so he went into the family business and became a photographer. Buck moved to New York in 1990 and established himself as a sought-after editorial and advertising photographer; his clients include Google, SAP, Old Spice, KIA, GQ, Guardian Weekend and The New York Times Magazine.
Buck has won multiple awards, including being the first recipient of the Arnold Newman Portrait Prize in 2007. His second book, a 30-year retrospective, UNEASY: Chris Buck Portraits 1986-2016, came out in early 2017. His series work includes Presence (portraits of the famous in which they are not visible), Chris Buck’s Chris Bucks (photographs of other people sharing his full name), and Gentlemen’s Club (portraits of exotic dancer’s boyfriends).
He spends his free time with his wife Michelle and daughter Olive. He takes his martinis dry, with a twist.
