The positive reception to the inaugural 2015 edition – which attracted over 100,000 attendees – has led us to partner once again with the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). It has also emboldened the PhotoBangkok team to continue on our path of creating ambitious photographic exhibitions and knowledge-sharing programs – and making sure that they are fun and accessible to everyone.
Building on the opportunities and momentum created by the first edition, PhotoBangkok 2018 focuses on Asian and Thai photography and on giving a platform to emerging artists. Between June 28 until September 9, a wide range of photographic events will take place through collaborations with like minded institutional partners, including Goethe Institut, French Embassy, Spanish Embassy, Japan Foundation, PhotoEspaña, Bangkok University, and Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Centre, as well as 24 galleries around the city.
Once again, the PhotoBangkok team has also created an international symposium, portfolio review sessions and workshops in collaboration with invited international artists and curators. Aimed at Thailand’s burgeoning photographic community, these educational programs have been developed in partnership with The Museum of Photography, Seoul (one of the most important photographic institutions in Asia).
Covering the whole spectrum of photography, PhotoBangkok 2018 offers a unique opportunity for students, professionals and the general public to attend – and benefit from – in-depth educational programs led by renowned experts in the field of contemporary photography. And for the first time, we have even added a smartphone photo contest in which anyone can compete to have their work selected, by sponsor Magnolia Quality Development Corporation and our jury, and then displayed on the walls of the BACC.
